Sunflower Books, who publish walking guides for European destinations, has complemented its Italian collection with a guide to the Cinque Terre and Riviera di Levanto, a region where information on good walks, particularly outside of the Cinque Terre, has been notoriously difficult to find in English. This much-needed book covers 27 hikes with detailed walking instructions, timings, elevations, maps, information on public transport, bars and more. An indispensable guide for anyone interested in walking this stretch of the Ligurian coast.
Don’t be fooled by the title – only seven of the walks (some of them closed at present) are in the Cinque Terre. The book covers the whole Riviera di Levante, from the Magra River and La Spezia in the south, via the Cinque Terre, the “Little Cinque Terre” (Moneglia to Levanto), the Tigullio Gulf (Rapallo to Sestri Levante), and the Portofino Peninsula to Genoa in the north. Most of the walks are at the coast, with a few hikes in the interior.
Sunflower guides have been trusted walking companions of ours for over fifteen years. We have used them in several countries and our well-used copy of the Amalfi coast guide was upgraded to the latest edition last year. While we regularly walk the paths in the Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets, we anticipate that this latest addition to our collection will open up even more of the stunning Ligurian coastline to us.
The Cinque Terre and Riviera di Levanto guide can be purchased at Amazon.co.uk. It is also available from other UK stockists, as well as booksellers in Northern Europe and the USA. It is available as an ebook directly from the publishers.
