Australian expat in Lunigiana, Mike Davis, has won this year’s “Scorci di Filattiera” painting competition organised by Pro Loco of Filattiera and the Cultural Association Kuaikò. Along with more than thirty other artists, Mike spent eight hours in wet, autumnal weather capturing a scene of Filattiera on Sunday, 20 May 2012. It is believed Mike is not only the first foreigner to win the competition, which is now in its fourth year, but that it is also the first time a watercolour painting has won first prize.
As well as a warming bottle of Clementi’s China liqueur and a certificate presented to him by Professor Benelli, President of Premio Bancarello, Mike won the €400 cash prize and the opportunity to exhibit his work for a week at the Sala Culturale CarGià in San Terenzo, Lerici, in September.
Mike is well-known among the expat community in Lunigiana as he runs regular painting classes throughout the spring and summer. He is always happy to undertake commissions and his work ranges from watercolors of holiday homes in Lunigiana, to portraits of adults and children, and even pets.
Mike recently help raise a significant amount of money by auctioning one of his paintings in aid of the Lega Nazionale per la Difesa del Cane at an event held by expats a few weeks ago.
