What could be better than opera performed outdoors on a late summer evening? A magical performance on the roof of a medieval castle, where you feel you can almost touch the stars? With performers so close to you that you are almost part of the performance? Where there is no charge to attend the performance and all are welcome?
And when it is in your own borgo, just minutes up the stairs, it couldn’t be more perfect,
Il Trovatore by Guiseppe Verdi performed in Malgrate Castle recently was just such an occasion. The excellent performance was sponsored by the Comune di Villafranca in Lunigiana and the Assessorato alla Cultura in collaboration with the Associazione Arte e Tecnica dell’Antica Scuola di Canto.
Rehearsals took place earlier in the week. We were lucky enough to watch for a while, as the borgo echoed with song for the afternoon.
Opera in the Sky appeared on Ciao Lunigiana on 10 September 2014.
