The first of the year’s bancarel events takes place in Pontremoli on 26 and 27 April, Bancarelfiore 2014. For two days, Pontremoli will be filled not only with flowers but with activities designed to promote flowers and nature. There will be events dedicated to art, plant sales, exhibitions, competitions and conferences.
Under the banner of “The flower between tradition and modernity”, expect to see the town’s windows, balconies and doors bedecked with flowers as the citizens of Pontremoli compete for the best display. Paintings and sculpture will be displayed in Pontremoli’s public spaces and courtyards. Expect the flower market to tempt you with an enticing array of colours and numerous varieties of plants. The exhibitions include a display of rare succulents by Lunigiana Arborea, the art of Japanese flower arranging, and a patchwork quilt exhibition focusing on flowers.
There is a special programme for school children, which aims to encourage creativity and appreciation of the many varieties of flowers. There are also several independent but related exhibitions (check out the normal venues such as Galleria d’Arte ex Macelleria) and a short conference, while the farmers market will be offering the best of local produce.
