Lunigiana’s first artisan brewery will officially open in the new year in Pontremoli. With a view of the Duomo and the Bell Tower, the microbrewery is the brain child of the young craft brewer, Emanuele Sordi, who is experimenting with local products such as honey, chestnuts and berries to flavour his beers. Sordi’s beers have already been well received at the Slow Food Salone del Gusto event in Turin.

Sordi has been enthusiastic about brewing beer for many years, but it was the lack of employment opportunities in Lunigiana after he graduated that led to the idea of opening a microbrewery, particularly after his early experiments proved so successful.
The brewery is currently producing three beers: a light Weiss larger produced from wheat instead of barley; an amber ale and a strong Belgium-type beer. A fourth beer using acacia honey from Lunigiana has been delayed due to the lack of honey. Seasonal beers using chestnut flour and forest berries are planned.
Local shops, bars and restaurants have expressed interest in stocking Sordi’s beers, so watch out for them in the new year and support this innovative new venture in Lunigiana.
